What do you get if you throw Lewis Hamilton's looks together with the voice and style of Craig David?! Currently signed to Blue Collar Records, Haynzy is poised to make great waves in mainstream UK music and fill the current gap of British R&B. Cordless talks to the north London artist about Falling Alone...

Cordless: So Haynzy you're a singer/songwriter from north London doing your thing. So tell me a little bit about you and where you've come from musically.

Haynzy: In a nutshell I started off in Gospel when I was around eight years old. Over time I grew, gained more confidence and started writing my own songs at the age of 13. From there I worked on my voice, made some industry contacts, got myself a manager and progressed from there.

Who inspires you musically?

Boys II Men, 112, Brian Mcknight, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson. They are real vocalists that carry true emotion in their music.

I noticed you mentioned a lot of US artists. Is America somewhere you would like to conquer in the future?

Definitely. In fact I just came back from doing the Independance Day celebration in Atlanta, Georgia. They wanted me to be a UK representative for their independence day show, which was great because I played with some great musicians. Judging by the response I think they really liked the British Soul/R&B sound.

So you're proof that even an average guy from North London can be doing incredible things and following your dreams.

Exactly. I was fortunate because I knew what I wanted to do from an early age and when you've been doing something for so long you stick with it because of how much you love it.

You're signed to Blue Collar Records, what's it like being signed to an independent label?

Being signed to an independent gives you so much more control. Some of the [major labels] don't take your opinion into consideration. You're also aware of what's happening every step of the way and I personally feel more proud because I know how much effort I've put into it.

Lets talk about your debut single Falling Alone. What's the concept behind it?

It's a real nice simple melodic song. It's just about a relationship where one person is falling in love but the other isn't feeling that strongly and so they're falling alone. It's simple but yet it's not the generic love song.

I've seen the music video with you driving down the street looking very slick! Do you get many comparisons to Lewis Hamilton?

I get a lot of comparisons to Lewis Hamilton looks-wise but vocally I get compared to Craig David. I don't get offended. When I about 12-years-old Craig David dropped his first album. I respect him as a singer.

Have you had the opportunity to work with any other UK artists yet?

I'm really feeling the UK vibe at the moment, it's really booming and so I've got a few things coming up with some of the big homegrown artists. I can't say names but I'm really looking forward to it.

So can you confirm anything about the second single yet?

It's a Dance/R&B song called Leave Me Behind which doesn't have a release date as yet but we're confident it will do even better than Falling Alone.

Any plans for an album?

I've been working on the album and I'm pleased to say that it's scheduled for release early next year.
