Ed Sheeran

At the tender age of just 18 Ed has written and recorded over 100 songs, some 30 of which are included on The Orange Room EP (2005) and his first two albums, Ed Sheeran (2006) and Want Some? (2007). Since appearing on the show back in May 2009 he has completed over 300 live gigs and toured with the likes of Gabriela Cilmi, Nizlopi and Jay Sean. To find out what else he's been up to and what he would take if he were stranded on a desert island, Karla Williams recently sat down with him.

So what have you been doing since the Cordless Show?
I've been doing support slots and tours with people like Just Jack and the Noisette's. I've released a new EP which has now sold its capacity...so that sold really, really well and with the proceeds from that I went into to studio and recorded another one, so the one I just recorded will be out very soon. I've also been doing some writing with a guy called Guy Chambers who has worked with Robbie Williams and other acts so that's positive...I've also done lots and lots of gigs, over 300 last year....

If you were on a desert island, what 3 things would you have with you?
Could DVDs and a DVD play count as one?

Yeah I'll let you have that as one.
Cool, I would probably have a full box set of a series called Oz and a DVD player to watch them on because that would take up a lot of time. Next one would be the guitar but along with the guitar would have to be spare strings because obviously if I broke one that would be a bit s***. Erm...[long pause] and maybe a Nandos.

You mean a whole Nandos restaurant?
Yeah.

With staff?
[Laughs] Yeah.

Okay. And if you didn't live in London, what other place would you live in?
I've always thought it would be pretty cool to live in Australia, but if I didn't live in London the reason being I wasn't making enough money so I'd probably being living in somewhere like Berlin; it's a wicked place for musicians to make money. So I'd probably being living in Berlin or Hamburg or somewhere like that.

Which mobile number do you call the most?
Probably my girlfriend's, to be honest.

What other talent or skill do you which you had?
I wish I could sing as well as soul gospel singers. I wish I had the vocal ability to do all their licks and stuff. Like how Bluey [Robinson] can just let rip, that's one thing I'll proably never be able to do, but if I could do it - it'd be pretty cool.

And what is the most played track on you iPod?
I'll check for you now [looks at iPod]...a band called Laid Blak.

What's your favourite colour?
Orange.

Finally, finish this sentence, "Some of the things I'll achieve in 2010 are..."
Sticking out a single on a major record label, which I think is happening quite soon. A big support tour...and releasing four EP's and a mixtape.

Ed's new EP will be available to buy late January 2010. To find out more about Ed Sherran and to also pre order the EP entitled Loose Change please visit his website www.edsheeran.com
